Our interpretation is that this filling with recycled mudbricks may have helped level the house for rebuilding, suggesting cultural practices of communal maintenance, and perhaps a form of prehistoric circular economy 🛖🔄.

Our findings suggest that:.👉 The house burned at very high temperatures (~700ºC).👉Its walls and roof were affected.👉 Soon after, it was deliberately filled in with burnt mudbricks, likely gathered from its own walls.

We applied a multi-proxy geoarchaeological approach:.🔬 Micromorphology.🧲 Magnetic properties.🧱 GIS-based mudbrick spatial analysis.🧪 XRF and XRD.to study one well-preserved burnt house at Cerro de San Vicente (Salamanca, Central Iberia).

Burned houses are a common feature in the archaeological record since the onset of sedentism, but the reasons behind such conflagrations events are often unclear. Were they accidents? Closure rituals? Ways of cleaning and maintaining the domestic space? 🔥.
