Pushed out as the Head Boys' Basketball Coach of Whitefish H.S. for "running my program too much like a college program" as I was told by school leadership. 15 years later and counting the program still has not returned to the state tournament. Lower standards = subpar results.
Not implying I was great coach etc, but I was passionate about the program being competitive and being able to compete for a state title. At the H.S. lvl I see far too many passionate coaches getting pushed out or hanging it up because they have high standards. When I see people
complain about youth basketball in the U.S. and the direction it is headed now, I can tell it has been heading in this direction for longer than 15 years and lot of it in my opinion has to do w/weak leadership at the high school level that placates to anyone an everyone w/a
irrelevant complaint that usually has to do with them not being realistic about their child's present ability and potential ability. And instead of school leadership following policy that is designed to foster direct and honest communication-they do the opposite and send
the wrong message thus creating an environment where it becomes near impossible for passionate coaches to build a strong foundation that breeds success.
It says “Real D1 Athletes” but any “Real Athlete” that wants to be successful does all the things listed without hesitation. Are you a “Real Athlete” then DM me!!!
@TheHoopHerald
Yes. HS and College hoops in U.S. need to go all out and adopt FIBA rules, regulations-court size, 3pt line, wide lane and 24 second shot clock HS sub-varsity levels all the way through to NCAA D1 etc.
@kyriemavs
@Timberwolves
Well they have better knowledge of the contract they have with him than you. Not inconceivable that he probably has personal time concessions within the agreement and then there is the NBPA CBA with the league as well.
@CoachVass
Happened to me once but HR forgot to email me. And this was after the HC told me he was renewing my contract. So when I stopped in to sign it…awkward. This HC also told a player via text message he was pulling his scholly while the player was flying home to attend a funeral 🫤

So the players delayed it so they could finish the season? I understand due process in any investigation, but I would be asking why the head coach was not placed on paid leave when the investigation started so the players weren't placed in this position?
Watched the HBO Max Doc on Bishop Sycamore. Really makes you take a step back and wonder where youth and amateur sports is really headed.
Youth athletes and parents of these athletes-constantly vet all information you receive or are told.

“shameful” if the opt to spend that time with their family or working w/players that don’t play AAU? They scarifice a lot of their time already for their players. Never judge how other people spend their time until you’ve walked a mile in their 👟 or how they spend their $.

Even worse 61 just throws in the towel before the QB goes down and starts walking to the sideline and then doesn’t even help his QB up. 😬

Actually had a beer with him in 2004 after a Trailblazers game. Super genuine person. Had pics of his family and loved talking about his family and hoops. I was a complete stranger but he made my buddy and I feel like we were long time friends of his.
Two minutes of Mark Few you should hear.
“Randy said to me after the game, we’ve gotten a lot better, which is what you’re supposed to do. I think that’s what’s been lost in all this narrative that’s out there. We’ve got amateurs making comments on TV, that’s what you get.”

3 key steps to follow as an athlete:
1️⃣ Train your talent in practice.
2️⃣ Trust your talent in competition.
3️⃣ Constantly repeat steps 1️⃣ & 2️⃣.
You will find yourself making plays not excuses by taking these steps.
What is Potential?
Potential is a force, a force that can do some work, create something, or move something. Potential has two components — it has magnitude, and it has a direction.
So it is not just about how much potential or force you possess, but also in what direction

Didn’t see the call or calls, but most refs are going to give a T when you’re up 41 with less than 5 mins to go and getting in their face over calls. Don’t see how passion factors in unless there were some hard foul no-calls, etc.
@CoachCole94
Everywhere. There is talent all over the U.S. that gets over-looked etc because of the bad recruiting philosophies, poorly trained evaluators or ones with no business evaluating talent. Ranking sites r a prime example of this. Do background-ck on most rankers you'd be disapntd

Really need to get USA basketball to push the NFHS and all state HS associations to just adopt FIBA rules etc. Should have started to happen 20 yrs ago. Some states just got 35 sec shot clocks. Everyone is so afraid of any change.
A few days ago received a DM from an athlete that is an 8th grader asking what he can do to get noticed by college coaches. My response:
1. Learn college recruiting rules in and out.
2. Work hard to get grades needed to be a viable prospect.
3. Establish realistic athltic goals
A great example of an athlete who took ownership over her recruiting and found an optimal situation to advance her athletic career and education. Take note high school athletes.

Well some know that it creates extra costs for the school and their program and a lot of them are only seeing it being beneficial to a small % of players who actually go on to the college level and can make the adjustment at that time. Don't view it being beneficial compt wise
Had a parent once tell me that her son finds practicing fundamentals boring, etc. I told her when I was her son’s age I found them boring too, but I got tired of getting my butt kicked by players who got over the “boring” aspect of practicing fundamentals.
@jimfritz17
I attribute it to them simply not caring and school board members/community not holding them accountable for making that decision. From what I’ve seen, that rarely happens and is big part of the problem in HS sports in my opinion.
Many are pointing to the transfer portal and NIL as the reason why you have so many Power 5s doing so poorly in the tourney and getting upset. I don’t agree. I believe the issue to be HS player rankings. You have Power 5 programs relying too much on p-rankings and not doing

So why were her arms up above her shoulders when the ball hit her hands if it was “thrown towards her back hip”? Hope this question helps you understand biomechanics and physics better.
@TheHoopHerald
Yes.
And I used to be up on the sideline (not the court) and would be constantly intense verbally with my players on defending etc and then I realized I was only making them more restless and uptight. Stopped doing it in games and focused on being a better coach in practice.

NBA teams have major and critical factors (funnel system) that prospects are run through. It’s all about checking the right boxes. College production isn’t being disregarded. It’s like buying a car, some people value look and style over reliability and safety, etc.

Skewed towards son's, daughters or relatives of college coaches or the kids of those coaches friends. I would say it is more about connections and relationships than financial freedom at a young age.

language, etc. Do you really think that will impress a college coach? 2. Make sure it is not a greeting where you pretend to answer the call and keep saying hello or some other immature nonsense. Again, do you really think a college coach would be impressed by that?
@loriburkhart
I like ASU’s chances of making it to the Sweet 16. I see them creating match-up issues for TCU but they have to be playing in rhythm. UCLA has a intriguing match-up vs UNC-Asheville and a scary one in Northwestern. USC v MSU is a ugly toss up and WCats will have to get by Bama.
Transfer portal, NIL $$$, Conference realignment checkers with big TV/media $$$ -is this all just one big swirling tornado 🌪️ that will lead to college sports becoming like international pro soccer club systems galore and fend for yourself etc?
