2. USA’s coaches and the USA program need to discourage domestic over scoring AND teach artistry and execution fundamentals.
Those things need to be learned overall and we can’t just blame one athlete being unexpectedly out.

One thing about the USA Stan thing is like… some of us live here 😂 this is the team we have the most proximity to and that we relate to their lives experiences. Like suni’s story is so relatable to me as an immigrant in the US. So yeah i root for them 🤷🏻♀️

This is particularly important because USA gymnastics would’ve continued to send girls and young women to a remote facility that created conditions that were perfect for more abuse to thrive. Simone’s advocacy has helped girls and women in sport be safer.
simone biles got the place where SO much horrific abuse & pain took place shut down w/ 1 tweet & selflessly stayed in an org that facilitated her abuse just to make sure the next generation of gymnasts were safe. no one cares what u consider worthy of that medal, she deserved it.

Because of my passion for gymnastics, equity, and respect for all nations, I believe I need to explain why the idea that some athletes in Women’s Artistic Gymnastics just “participate,” while others truly compete is wrong and ignorant.

My view is that the Olympics is supposed to be a contest of the best of the best. And have 2/3rds of the “BEST” watching so that people with limited skill can “participate” is wrong.

Kara competing in person had an it factor that just doesn’t translate on video. I saw the greats like Simone at this meet, at times just 6 Ft away from my face, but Kara literally took my breath away. No matter what happens in her future, she’s an amazing woman.

Simone Biles has 19 world championship gold medals and 4 Olympic Gold medals. She has skills named after her in 3 out of 4 events gymnastics compete. She is so dominant she hasn’t lost since 2013. But sure 7 rings is nice i guess.

I largely agree with most of this, but as a non white latina, I’ve faced some of the racism from white Cubans, and seen much worse targeted toward black people in our Miami Dade community. There is a lot of racism at play for many (though not all) that we need ti confront.
