It took 3 years (or maybe my memories have been wiped from academic stress) but I have finally hit that Grad School stage where I feel like I know what I'm doing but I also no longer sleep. Or exercice. Or not think about work.

@ASAnews Are you planning to protect disabled members from Covid-19 infection and/or provide a virtual option? People need to know if they are wasting their time submitting to an unsafe conference they won’t be able to attend. @ASADisability

I had a grad student turn up their nose at me when I mentioned that I teach. They said “I do research, not teaching.” Do people like this not realize that if it weren’t for academics who teach…they wouldn’t be able to learn or get their degrees? Make it make sense 🙄

I did things today: - Finalized an interview guide with some dope colleagues - Finished and Submitted my 2nd try Ford Foundation Application 🤞🏾 - Responded to student emails and submitted grades to my supervising professor. I will now go cease to exist for at least 48 hours ✌🏾

Every semester there's at least one student who emails me to express their gratitude for my having been their TA. I have to say, this one I just got really hit me in the feels—and it came in on my birthday too. This is why I do what I do y'all, politics, funding woes, and all.

It's always amazing how everytime I try to take advantage of University mental health services I have a negative experience. And then research has the nerve to say something about "help seeking behaviors". 🙄

Something they don't tell you about grief is just how bittersweet every birthday is after you become older than an elder loved one. In 2 weeks I'll be 7 years older than my brother who was 7 years older than me.
