Instead of attacking "AI art", I invite you to give it a shot. Dive into it. Create something unique and exciting that brings you and others joy. You'll soon realize that there's so much more to it than "click computer and it make picture". 🌄

I make my art because it brings me, along of hundreds of thousands of people joy. That's all. There's no ulterior motive, there's no net profit, and there's no malice in what I and many other artists create. ⬇️

It genuinely hurts when people jump to hasty conclusions without understanding the people, the work and the time involved, and most importantly -- the reason why we create these genuinely unique works and share them with the world. ⬇️

It was an exciting time, and the community of artists I've met along this journey are some of the most amazing and diverse people I've ever had the pleasure of interacting with. ⬇️

The workflows to generate these works involved months of experimentation, thousands of dollars of rented GPU time, and many nights of rendering and batching. ⬇️

Before ChatGPT, before DALL-E 3, before Stable Diffusion and Midjourney, and before generative art became pervasive and mainstream, artists like me formed a passionate community and experimented and pushed the boundaries what was possible ⬇️

4. AI is recreating artists' styles which is unethical. Artists copy styles all the time. AI is just a tiny fraction of this. Imitation of art styles is a major pillar of art. It's hard to find a style that isn't a remix or an imitation of something else.

3. AI is stealing artist's works and literally copying them which is illegal. No. Popular text to image diffusion tools have no data in their model weights that represents an exact copy of anything they were trained on.

2. AI is stealing copyrighted works because they are used for training. No. Publicly available scraped data is legal for this sort of use in the US at least for now.

1. AI is endangering the livelihood of artists. Yes. This is potentially a concern. All knowledge work and creative work is threatened. Many are predicting that machines will change almost 100% of all jobs in the upcoming decades.
