My first publication since starting at @KirbyInstitute came out today. It was a delightful little piece of qualitative research to work on and I’m so pleased to see it out in the world.

This second presentation draws on a study I recently published a paper from that explored how LGBTQ+ Aboriginal young people imagine sexual healthcare that would meet their needs

The above presentation is in the 3C stream on Social, Political and Cultural aspects of HIV at 2:15PM on Monday. I also have a second presentation in the 11C stream on Social Research, Community and Policy aspects of sexual and reproductive health at 2PM on Wednesday.

I led this campaign in my last role at the NSW STI Programs Unit and I’m very appreciative for the opportunity to present it despite leaving my role earlier this year. I’ve been wanting to showcase this program at a conference for a few years and I’m keen to see how it’s received.

Looking forward to the #IUSTI and HIV conferences next week. I have two presentations planned, the first co-presented with the delightful Kevin Dong from Western Sydney LHD on a HIV testing campaign for Mandarin-speaking and Arabic-speaking heterosexual men who have sex with men

For the young people in our study, sexual healthcare designed and delivered by and for “people like them” was an as-yet-unrealised possibility that resonated deeply.

We explored how LGBTQ+ Aboriginal young people imagined sexual healthcare that would meet their needs. The imaginary reflected three key themes: feeling respected, representation and visibility, and feeling like services had been designed “with me in mind”.

This one was a true team effort and the project passed through many loving pairs of hands before it came to me to wrap it up.
