The information is partly correct. Let me break it down below; Stopncii is a project backed by Meta, & operated by @RPhelpline (supported by UK Home Office). The website is legit and is a step in the right direction. 🧵

1) The tool works by generating digital fingerprint/hash of the photos/videos you upload on it. This means that whenever exact hash is detected on any of the participating companies, the algorithm blocks it from uploading.

Important: When you upload content, the tool does not transfer your content to the servers of Stopncii, but just transmits its hash/digital fingerprint which is a unique ID specific to that content. Your content remains in your phone only.

2) Once the hash is uploaded on stopncii, the tool will also search for the exact hash on participating platforms, and will send request to remove it to the platform. The content will be removed if it violates the platform's image abuse policy.

It also periodically scans these platforms to look for the hash, and sends removal request to the companies. --

>> Much like all tech, this one also has some limitations. I will only mention one to build up to a Tip; 1) Hash is created of the photos/videos that you upload on the platform. Which means that if the content is altered, the hash will change as well.

🚨TIP: You can upload upto 20 photos/videos per case, so it's a good idea to upload a few versions of the same content, so when the hash is generated, it includes all of these variations. You can also create a second case to upload more versions of the same content.

(I've deliberately excluded details of limitations so not to give ideas to anyone. If you're based in Pakistan & go through any kind of online harassment, contact @DigitalRightsPK Cyber Harassment Helpline. If you can, also file a legal complaint with FIA.)

Remember, we have a law that criminalises image based violence in Pakistan. So if anyone is threatening or blackmailing you, they're committing a crime, not you. Seek support, and if you can, reach out to law enforcement authorities.
