On the phone! & they were making me pay for an Economy Plus seat on my second leg of the flight.. why is it free with first class on other flights but not United?

I’ve been on hold now with @united for nearly 40 mins now. I booked a First Class flight with two stops in which one being a short flight.. these people are trying to make me pay $20 for an economy plus seat on my short flight 🧐 #nickleanddime #seriously
