We don't remember to post often, but we do still run HeatHack introduction workshops to help groups think about how to use our programme for saving energy in community buildings. https://t.co/gqt90VOMPH

On Saturday, we were privileged to be asked by the Argyll and Bute Climate Action Network to run a face-to-face HeatHack workshop. Here’s what went on.

A couple of groups have asked about how to check whether they have insulation and specifically about thermal imaging. We're happy to receive improvements to what we've told them.

What if a building currently has to heat lots of rooms any time one of them is in use? It's a common problem. We discuss the possible solutions.

Some of our engineers have asked for more help to interpret their temperature data. We've written down some of what we look for, and offer individual help as needed.

In our programme, we pair volunteer engineers with community groups to understand energy in their buildings. Groups often ask us, "What is an engineer exactly, and who counts?" You might find the answer surprising. #thisisengineering

Many of our venues are asking for advice about grants to make improvements to their buildings. Here's the "big picture" view.

Thermal imaging produces pretty pictures, but is it useful? We once set a masters student to answer that very question.

We're starting to have discussions with some district councils and church dioceses - sometimes directly and sometimes via engineers who want to help. Here are some up-to-date slides that help.

We have a new recruitment presentation – if you are helping us find new groups to take part, please feel free to use it.

Here's an existing heating control problem in a set of halls - one thing our engineers help communities think about during our programme.

For our engineers: our thermal monitors will work on non-rechargeable alkaline batteries, but we don't know how long they will give readings, and when the voltage drops too far, the relative humidity readings will be inaccurate.

Engineers, there's a slight wrinkle if you want to put two thermal monitors in the same building. We explain how.

If your heating controls don't enforce a "setback" temperature, in this kind of weather the building can get cold enough to risk damage. Here's what good control looks like.

Polycarbonate secondary glazing can be a good heat loss solution for windows that don't need to open in winter. It's cheap and almost invisible.

We're looking for community groups in Oxford who want to work with a volunteer engineer on how to reduce their energy use and plan for a net zero future. It's free thanks to our funders, the Royal Academy of Engineering. @greenartsox https://t.co/hlROROMxf3

We've been asked to help plan ahead for when a gas boiler fails in a church rectory - a house for a priest. Here's what we'd suggest for these houses and for community venues.
