I like this Trail concept from Oregon OC Mike Belliotti. Could've been a big play if not batted down at the LOS.

If they shouldn't run AirRaid or or the spread, then why run this from the gun? Why not just get UC and run mid-triple or veer? Especially with how fast the dive hits from under center
Let’s be honest, there’s a ton of schools (high school & college) that have no business running the “Air Raid” or “Spread.” More offenses should look into & consider basing their identity in the option game, which can easily be used out of the gun!

Just elite. Everybody thought Hershel Dennis was going to lock up that RB spot and Reggie & LenDale kicked down the doors
HBD, @ReggieBush! 🥳 Let's celebrate with the @uscfb legend's 260-yard, 2-TD effort in the 2005 rout against rival UCLA.

Practice to be a bit more pass and pass skills development focused, especially at the college level because it was likely those guys had been running some form of a veer offense since Jr high

My theory for why Ben Griffith's Hambone/Flexbone was so good at both the triple option and passing. For one, combination of great coaching/teaching and talent & commitment/buy-in from players. option football & drills were the norm/zeitgeist of the time, so you structure (1/2)

@heaintshhh Agreed! Really the start of spreading it out in the Big 10.

@heaintshhh Coaches, would you consider this and option offense with Run & Shoot principles, or vice versa? To be able to get enough reps for both is simply AMAZING!

It's really remarkable that the B1G had Joe Tiller's wide-open spread attack at Purdue, Randy Walker's Spread-Option at NW, and Glenn Mason's PnP, bootleg PA offense at Minn at the same time and all 3 O's are the norm for offensive FB at HS, CFB & NFL

Here's a small snippet of what I'm talking about. Minnesota ran Pin-n-Pull out of every personnel group. I still have no idea why they fired him just because he couldn't beat Michigan. Here's the YouTube link to nearly 40 minutes of cutups https://t.co/HptsGKPUtz
If you love Pin-n-Pull, study Glenn Mason's O at Kansas & Minnesota. And the end of the Bill McCartney era at Colorado when they went away from the bone and option.

A few observations from this film: - It's absolutely clear that Ben Griffith thought TEs were useless, but he loved him, a hard-nosed FB. LOL - Tracy Ham is/was a special athlete - Remarkable how an option team could be this good throwing the ball - Griffith was a genius

@heaintshhh Love this style of moving the ball! Absolutely love teaching and coordinating the system… The “Choice” - “Go” - “Switch” concepts foundational to the modern “spread”!
