How do you decide which type of database to use? There are hundreds or even thousands of databases available today, such as Oracle, MySQL, MariaDB, SQLite, PostgreSQL, Redis, ClickHouse, MongoDB, S3, Ceph, etc. How do you select the architecture for your system?

Will be working with Kafka and Py Second thing I am going to add to this is the control dispatcher which just fetches the data from redis and sends it to the replay layer

200 OK on /health is not OK. Your API can say “I’m fine” while: 🔴 DB pool is dead 🟡 Kafka is choking 🟡 Redis is sad 😢 Users are staring at spinners Health checks should test dependencies, not just the process. If your /health only returns "OK", it’s lying to you.

The wild origin story of Redis is still one of my favorites in tech Back in 2009, Salvatore Sanfilippo wasn't trying to build the next planet-scale database... he was just a dev struggling with a slow MySQL app for his startup. Classic "scratch your own itch" moment Instead of

Built the first HTML-to-PDF endpoint today and went deeper into background task ideas with Celery and Redis. Now I need to lay out the system architecture so the full flow makes sense. #buildinpublic #saas #indiehackers #developer #founder #devlog

1 one piece of advice I would give to my 24-year-old self interviewing for backend roles: Never fall into the trap of trying to learn everything. Because you simply cannot. This is NOT a System Design interview: Kubernetes Kafka gRPC Redis Postgres SQS API Gateway Docker
