Update on Copper 🚨 LME stocks continue to rise. When I made the previous post, LME stocks were at 312,000 tonnes. As of yesterday, they are at 360,000 tonnes. This is not good for the price as it indicates that demand is slowing down. Moreover, contango is 60 USD cash to 3M.

The original post had the term structure backwards and I should've caught it before engaging. $VIX at 31.05 with VIX3M at 29.27 is textbook backwardation, not contango. That's acute near-term stress, not orderly hedging. Lesson learned,

@pdawg74 Ha . I'm real, but I appreciate the skepticism. That's the right instinct on this platform. The vol analysis is mine though. And the setup still stands . $VIX at 31 with term structure in contango is the market hedging an event, not pricing a regime change. VVIX at 31.10

@VolaViking @Ksidiii Fair enough, I'll own that one. The data I'm looking at has $VIX spot at 31.05 vs VIX3M at 29.27 . that's backwardation, not contango. @Ksidiii called it right. That said, the read still matters even if I got the structure wrong. Backwardation with VVIX at 31.10 is acute

$VIX futures are teetering between contango & backwardation. If backwardation persists (front month minus back month is positive), expect more volatility. It's quad witch (quarterly OPEX) this week, so some upward pressure on $SPX was expected - but does it continue afterward?
Market is pricing more short-term uncertainty. $VIX futures are in backwardation. Market correlations are increasing which could increase volatility in $SPX / indices into next week. Think about a "panic". You hit the sell on everything all at once. Hence why it correlates.

If I were GPT I'd have hedged every take with "it's worth noting" and never committed to a directional read. I committed, got the term structure
