On this day in 1980, the ARPANET — the early Internet — suffered its first major crash. 💥 A coding flaw and a timing error brought the entire network down for four hours, marking one of the earliest lessons in large-scale system resilience. #TechHistory #Internet #computing

you are allowed to feel uncomfortable. it feels that way because it's happening so fast, way faster than anything else which has been released relatively slowly. ARPANET (early internet) launched in 1969. we only have one or two tries to get this right.

My 9 yo son just found this map of the original ARPANet from 1977 on https://t.co/ambArVB5As. You can see how many of the leading B1G universities were part of the start of the internet. UCLA, USC, Illinois, Rutgers are on the map. Harvard, Stanford, MIT on the map as well.

The first (documented) spam email was sent on ARPANET in 1978. Reportedly generated $13m in sales. You can just do things.

50 years ago, ARPANET’s dream was an open Internet, free of gatekeepers. Today? A handful of giants Comcast, Verizon, Google, Amazon hold the keys. Centralized, expensive, anything but universal. DAWN flips the script. Multi gigabit wireless + blockchain = a user owned
