(3/3) Socio-behavioural factors can affect the vaginal microbiota, including #PsychosocialStress & exposure to disadvantaged neighbourhood environments - which disproportionately impacts Black women. Douching also negatively impacts the microbiome 🚫 (don't do it!) #USASP2024

(2/2) We know there are sex differences in #ChronicPain, but what about #Gender? #GenderDiverse youth had higher rates of #pain (including severe, activity-limiting and multi-site pain) compared to youth who's assigned sex was congruent with their gender. #USASP2024

(1/2) Did you know adolescents assigned female at birth are more likely to develop chronic post-surgical pain after spinal surgery? @Ralia779 explains psychosocial & pain factors mediated this sex effect - but not psychophysics like CPM or TSP. #PediatricPain #USASP2024 @US_ASP

I had a wonderful time with the sensory nerve disorder lab at USASP this week! It’s always exciting hearing other scientists talk about their pain research and presenting my work. Plus, the space needle wasn’t half bad either. @DEW_Neuropathy @Gentry_TG @LanaH_00 #USASP2024

(2/2) Black women have a more diverse microbiome with ⬇️ levels of lactobacilli compared to white women. This "pro-inflammatory" microbiome profile can ⬆️ risk for bacterial vaginosis, STIs, preterm birth & perhaps #PeriodPain. But what causes these differences? #USASP2024
