Something I've always found interesting is how Reiner and Annie's defense mechanism is exactly how their parents raised them. Annie goes straight to physical violence. Reiner guilt trips her with propaganda.
It’s worth saying that Annie did these things under threats against her and her father’s lives, but also that Reiner’s manipulation worked on her because she is selfish. Reiner was absolutely cruel and did target Annie but she wasn’t any more trapped than he was.
