If you want more density/diversity and commercial convenience, you need to do perimeter blocks with some mixed-use multifamily integrated. NYC has some blocks that do both rowhouse and multifamily, which is nice.

What I love about the 3-story rowhouse is that it's in every region of America. Each with it's unique flavor, but still the same concept and design. Smaller and, therefore, more affordable. We just don't build this way anymore ... but (God willing) my company and I will.

The key feature of the classic 2 & 3-story rowhouse is that it’s smaller and therefore more affordable. That’s what made it a bedrock of American workforce housing. When quality homes are compact and share walls, land is used efficiently and maintenance stays manageable.
