I just heard the word "carthasis" on Radio 3 (Sounds), with the emphasis on the first syllable. In the old days I would have wondered whether I had been pronouncing it wrongly all these years. These days I just listen to the sound of John Reith spinning in his grave.

Gosh this is good. But the real problem is historians masquerading as activists. Let history speak for itself, without using it to fit your own (usually shallow) personal moral universe. The Reith lectures are a new low in BBC history
