Today’s Math Challenge (thanks to @MrsHunterGrade1!) - Mystery Rods! I realized today this could be a #NumberSenseRoutine goldmine! Adding hints could extend thinking greatly!. Examples: “The bag has. - only 3/4/5/6 rods (aka 3/4/5/6 addends).- only 1 colour rod.- a double

Today’s Math Challenge - Represent building 14 in as many ways as you can on a Concept Circle. Day-after-day I get more and more impressed with this #NumberSenseRoutine and the number relationships students are building!

Got to see 👀 my favorite #numbersenseroutine this morning at @OCE_BlueJays! The level of student engagement and mathematical discourse was amazing! 🙌🏼 Which one doesn’t belong? 🤔

Today’s Math Challenge - How many ways can you build 12? I’m purposefully increasing/decreasing #’s each day, hoping Ss discover➡️larger #’s have more combos. This #NumberSenseRoutine is allowing Ss to explore the mathematical thinking they are ready for in the moment (see pics).

Today’s Math Challenge (aka #NumberSenseRoutine) - Build 13 using @CathyMarksKrpan’s Concept Circles. Seeing more attempts at; subtraction, multi-digit number sentences, money, and accurately representing our thinking using math models (drawing clear ten frames with 2+ colours).

Why I love #ConceptCircles by @CathyMarksKrpan as a #NumberSenseRoutine. Low Floor - High Ceiling.(entry points for all learners). ALL my Ss are engaging! Ss are listening to each other, trying each other’s tools/strategies, challenging each other, etc. It’s wonderful!

Math Challenge has gone VIRTUAL!. Some modifications have been needed, but still making #ConceptCircles work! Looking forward to figuring out what other #NumberSenseRoutine I can make virtual 🤔

It’s just an image of a rectangle yet students related it to arrays, equivalent fractions, estimation, all computation, geometry, and area. Simple questions to students, and by students, turned this simple image into a rich, engaging #NumberSenseRoutine @Mrs_Dudas3rd @LCPS_Math

Ms. Evans let me take over her #NumberSenseRoutine and we heard LOTS of flexible thinking about how to make sense of numbers using different models, strategies, computation, comparISONS, patterns, & math tools @GPECoTeach #GoGPGators

My heart smiles when my Ss get in a “grove” with a #NumberSenseRoutine (#ConceptCircles by @CathyMarksKrpan)! From composing💲to➖to domino double. what’s next?. Ss “We can’t find 39 tile, but can find 41 tile.”. T “I wonder if you can use the 41. What could we do to the 41?”

I had students create their own subitizing dot cards for our number sense routine. They were so excited to share their cards but even more excited to share their thinking. Visible learning is so powerful! #funinfirstgrade #numbersenseroutine @CWE_Cougars

With open exploration of a number during our #ConceptCircle #NumberSenseRoutine comes amazing thinking! Things the teacher can’t even predict - number relationships, connections, and sense making! @CathyMarksKrpan

@hartmannd12 @eye_you @mickleja This is great! I can easily use our #clothesline for this. all the numerals, representations, etc. are already made! I just need some =, +, & - signs! I can see a new #NumberSenseRoutine in the making (maybe T created T/F, then S generated T/F, then see where that goes) 😊
