My masters seminar on metaethics this semester. Ambitious, but should be a ton of fun.

Another atheist block badge. This guy doesn’t understand metaethics or that entities are theory-laden.

I married a fellow philosopher and this is basically our dinner table dynamic. Except we never talk about free will — it’s mostly metaethics.

You can just say “I have never read anything about metaethics.” It’s shorter and more honest.

It’s either morality is objective because it comes from God or it’s subjective because it’s a construct of the human mind. You cannot have an objective atheist morality, as it’s a logical impossibility.

Richard Joyce is a contemporary atheist philosopher who works in evolutionary ethics and metaethics. He argues that our moral beliefs were shaped by natural selection to promote survival and cooperation, not because they track any objective moral truths. Because of this, he

Somebody hasn't read the Degrees of Universalization section from famous metaethics book "Ethics. Inventing Right and Wrong" by John Leslie Mackie published in 1977. Kids these days, smh.

I'm on Clearer Thinking chatting with @SpencrGreenberg about utilitarianism, metaethics, and artificial intelligence. If you'd like to better understand utilitarianism and its appeal, this is a good place to start! (No shrimp were harmed in the making of this podcast.)

The lecturer who made a lasting impression on me on the need to decolonize my mind was my project supervisor, Prof JOJ Agbada. I had wanted to write on metaethics focusing on only two Shakespearean works. He removed one and replaced with a masterpiece: The voice (Gabriel Okara)❤️

I like Subahibi a lot don't get me wrong. But it pretends to be way deeper and then it actually is. Just mentioning and explaining certain philosophies doesn't turn your story into a master's thesis of metaethics.

One interesting thing I've found will trying my level best to better understand the metaethics of others is the utter absence of trying to understand what it means when we say something is morally wrong. Something being wrong for its own sake seems kinda of like a brute fact,
