We’ve completed a detailed review of the 61 regulations drafted by Government which will apply to incorporated community sport organisations (ICSOs) and we're obtaining a third-party legal review of our submission to MBIE. We're here to help all ICSOs, "for the love of the game".

The new Minister responsible for Incorporated Societies is Dr. Duncan Webb, who recently tabled new legislation for incorporated “entities which have as their mission, some social impact". We trust this intent carries over to the Act's draft regulations and their impact on ICSOs.

MBIE has reversed its position on “no public consultation” on the Incorporated Societies Act 2022 draft regulations, today announcing that all interested parties have 14 days to respond to the 26 page draft, (which was also released today). We will respond on behalf of all ICSOs.

16 incorporated community sport organisations (ICSOs) were notified as "dissolved" today by the Registrar in the New Zealand Gazette. Since 1 January 2024, 149 ICSOs have lost their incorporated status, in many case involuntarily, continuing to operate in an unincorporated state.

There is no legal requirement for an ICSO to adopt "the Integrity Code" under the Integrity Sport and Recreation Act 2023. We recommend all ICSOs carefully review the legal obligations of doing so, to ensure they are happy with the statutory liability they will implicitly accept.

Initial data from the 2024 NSCS indicates that 3,000+ ICSOs don’t plan to re-register under the Incorporated Societies Act 2022. Of those that do plan to re-register, only 4% know what to do! A Private Bill is being prepared for Parliament’s consideration to help small societies.

Only 18% of incorporated community sport organisations (ICSOs) have re-registered under the Incorporated Societies Act 2022. More than 5,000 ISCOs need to hold a General Meeting and adopt a new constitution in the next 340 days. Our fears of an extinction event seem well-founded.
