Similar ideas were uttered by those who opposed decriminalising suicide attempts. Now that we have decriminalised suicide attempts, we STILL aren't addressing the social determinants that lead to suicidal behaviour, and repeating the same mistake with this policy.
This policy is poorly conceived if it were to go through. Bullying stems from power imbalances and social dynamics. Criminalising it won't address these root causes. Madani's solution to every problem seems to be: just throw it into the criminal code. Absolute lunacy.

Let's not being naive & think that religion has only 1 function & role in our high power distance society. With only 1 democratic mechanism, a general election once every 5 years, religion is very much a tool for control. Not saying it's a bad or good thing, just saying it is.

Disability & mental health advocates, and UNICEF itself has been sounding the alarm since 2021. I want to say that I'm glad we're finally taking action after a death, but this hasn't been the only death, and it's not the first.
