Why did Mi'kmaq use birchbark canoes as their chief means of transportation? These canoes were light weight, waterproof, and strong. They were easy to carry over land portage routes. Their rounded end and wide bottom helped in maneuvering the canoe easily. #mikmaq #indigenous
