"Intimate details and astute critiques coalesce into a rich portrait of an artist ceaselessly remaking himself. Dylan devotees couldn't ask for a more thorough consideration of an under-studied part of his oeuvre." @LiverightPub @PublishersWkly

In 1823, the general public still largely believed that the universe was about 6,000 years old, as literalist readings of the Bible suggested. The world no longer seemed so young once fossils were found. https://t.co/4uWQa3Y2tT

“It’s not exactly a beach read, yet for me it was the perfect book for a summer of hate. If in some ways it’s a dense and hefty tome, it’s also sonorous in its melodies.”—Ania Szremski reviews “Works of Love” by Søren Kierkegaard, in this week’s missive

Totally beside the point, but my favorite part of the Mamdani SAT score ‘scoop’ is that the average score in the 2000s-2010s, when tests were scored out of 2400 (800 per section), hovered around 1500. Mamdani scoring 2140 is being framed as ‘poor.’ https://t.co/eAxcLQXZq3

Ten years ago, I woke up at 5:30 a.m. I met up with Jim Obergefell at the Supreme Court. This was our routine for weeks, as we waited for the decision in Obergefell v. Hodges. Jim was fighting to have his marriage to his late husband John recognized by the federal government.
