Today we published our quarterly integrity & security reports, and shared an under-the-hood view into our defense strategy and how we build it into products.

Looking forward to more research in this area to help our industry build stronger/safer AI systems. More broadly, malicious groups keep evolving tactics - that’s why we keep examining our threat disruption strategies and how we can improve them.

👉AI: we joined peers for a first-ever public Red Team Challenge at @defcon this month. Over 2K security researchers and students stress-tested 8 LLMs to help probe for bugs and unintended behaviors – from bad math to misinformation to providing bad user security practices.

👉Threads: we rolled out transparency features on Threads including labeling state-controlled media and more.

While network takedowns are impactful, they are one tool in our broader defense toolbox, powering our work to evolve our scaled integrity systems and how we build new products.

We included threat indicators to help inform further security research into these adversarial networks targeting people around the world. 👉More on IO research from @benimmo

We took action against 5 separate covert influence operations, including from China and Russia.

3️⃣ These reports show how persistent these threats can be. Malicious groups count on the industry working in silos while they target people across services. That’s why it’s great to see teams working together to protect people, share threat research and scale this security work.

2️⃣ We took action against malware targeting businesses across the internet, including browser extensions posing as ChatGPT and other GenAI tools. We shared findings with peers and rolled out new security features to help protect against malicious tactics.

We also just published new payout guidelines for different bug categories, ranging as high as $300K, making our program one of the highest-paying in the industry. (6/6).

This year, we continued our leading security programs like our Bug Bounty program which awarded $2M+ in bounties in 2022. It’s been great to see collaboration between external and internal security researchers in finding bugs. (5/6).

We released a new threat report on the global surveillance-for-hire industry. This year, we continued to take down these entities who indiscriminately targeted people in ~200 countries/territories. (4/6).

Since 2017, we’ve taken down 200+ covert influence operations globally. I’m proud to have grown our threat intel work over the past 4yrs into an industry-leading team that shares insights with industry peers and reports findings publicly (3/6).

We know that account security is top of mind for people. Today, we shared a look at how we’re thinking about account security/support, the challenges ahead and some of our new security protections against various attack vectors. (2/6).
