You wouldn't see this procedure today, but the underlying patient motivation is just as real as it ever was. Unfortunately, for so many with lipedema, there won't be *any* treatment at all until lipedema is recognized as unique, serious, and deserving of modern treatments.

For any out that might waive off the burden of living with #lipedema: Consider this haunting image of a woman who, ca. 1988, elected to relieve that burden via a surgery that required wires to be drilled through her heels so that a wedge of her suspended leg could be removed
