true “old money” watch brands would include a lot of atypical watchmakers. harry winston, a lange & söhne, hublot, girard-perregaux, etc. “old money”, in my experience, collect because they know they will be able to afford that hobby and pass it onto future generations.

going based on price is sort of flawed logic here. “new money” are more likely to actually spend more on one specific watch than “old money” who is more likely to collect many different watches of varying value.

the infighting between 1644 and 1655 as someone who loves all three like dear god. at least they were on the same team at one point so that kind of makes sense but when we get into the 1633, 1681, etc rivalries it kind of feels like someone is playing whack-a-mole w my head.
