#Schoolgardens make for more responsible students! With our Eastwood Eagles, this is very true. Since each student is assigned to their own plant, it's up to them to care for it - no one else. When things go wrong, our students step up to the challenge.π #greenwayfoundation

Measuring plant growth was a fun experiment some of our students participated in. Every week, they measured their plant, wrote it down and compared it to the previous week. The look on their faces when their plants grew a good amount than the week prior was priceless.βΊοΈπ±

Don't mind us, just feeding our plants. π The concept of feeding plants is typically a new one for our students. They know plants get a lot of what they need with sun + water, but they learn the importance of nutrient content in their soil and how that affects plant health. π±

Peaceful #garden moments are what we live for. π This can be very healing for students as garden tasks encourage mindfulness which promotes a meditative state and calm energy. #greenwayfoundation #nonprofit

There's nothing like watching young minds problem solve. It's even better when they collaborate with one another to figure something out. π€ #Gardening is such a great activity to provide children with the opportunity to practice this important skill! π± #greenwayfoundation

Just harvesting some snap peas. π We miss harvesting day, but hopefully we can be back in the garden with our kiddos at some point in the near future.

Technology can supplement outdoor #garden learning in a number of ways including: - Digital journals to record what they've learned and changes in their plants. - Ruler apps to measure plant size. - A way to identify any bugs they notice. #greenwayfoundation #schoolgarden

According to the US Census Bureau, roughly 80% of Americans live in #urban areas. This means less of our youth are regularly exposed to #nature which can negatively impact emotional and physical wellbeing. #Schoolgardens can help mediate this problem. π±π #nonprofit

#Gardeningtip: Regularly removing dead #plant parts is an easy way to optimize nutrient delivery. Your plant will only nourish and encourage the healthier parts to grow rather than use energy trying to revive dead tissue. π± #greenwayfoundation #schoolgarden #nonprofit

Plant #roots are so fascinating.π The tiny network of roots is responsible for transporting nutrients and water and keeping the #plant anchored to the soil. Our kiddos know a healthy plant cannot exist without #healthy roots.βοΈ #greenwayfoundation #nonprofit #schoolgarden

Herbs, leafy greens, veggies, fruit...our #schoolgarden exposes students to produce they may not have access to. The work we do with our students creates long term change in their lives and for this opportunity, we are always grateful. π #greenwayfoundation #nonprofit

Patience, patience and more patience! π If there's one skill our students continue to master every year because of their school garden, it's patience. They practice patience while waiting for their plants to grow, while carefully applying fertilizer and when harvesting. ππ±

Boys garden too! βοΈ Gardening is a hobby commonly viewed as feminine. Maybe because of the nurturing aspect, but we don't do gender stigmas in our #schoolgarden. π Our boys have a blast in the garden, are excellent plant caregivers and there's nothing wrong with that. π±π

Hands full of l#eafygreens is what we like to see! π Our #students loved taking their harvested crops home and eating them for dinner. π Gardening has to be our favorite way to encourage #kids to eat their veggies.π greenwaygfoundation #nonprofit

Such a simple, but overlooked benefit of school gardens is stress relief for children. Studies show that gardening can lower cortisol levels (the stress hormone). Even just sitting in the garden has this affect. #Schoolgardens do wonders! π #greenwayfoundation #nonprofit
