I’m Tony Evers, and I will always try to do the right thing for our state. Wisconsinites want fair maps, and Wisconsinites deserve fair maps. So, today, Wisconsinites, I enacted fair maps for the great state of Wisconsin.

I made a promise to always work to do the right thing for Wisconsin. And I believe working together to find common ground so we could pass a bipartisan budget that reflects the will of the people of this state was part of keeping that promise. We found consensus and got it done.

In Wisconsin, we can’t afford to choose between mitigating climate change and protecting our environment or creating good-paying jobs and building a strong economy. By working toward clean energy options we can depend on, we’re doing both.

What was at stake in this budget was no secret. But I never stopped believing we could work together to pass a bipartisan, pro-kid budget that invests in our kids and schools from early childhood to K-12 to our UW System. And that’s what we did.

Wisconsin’s agricultural industry is as critical to our economy as it is to our culture. Our bipartisan budget invests in supports for farmers, including mental health, farmer-led watershed protection efforts, and dairy and meat processors to support our supply chain.

I proposed violent history checks for all firearm purchases and closing the background check loophole. Republicans said no. This is a step in the wrong direction. We should be working to reduce crime and gun violence and to keep kids and families safe.

Our bipartisan budget invests $1.4 BILLION in our kids and schools, raises the special education reimbursement rate to the highest in 30 years, and invests $30 million in school-based mental health. That's a win for our kids, our schools, and our state.

I heard from Wisconsinites, and they told me we had to make real investments in child care in this budget. I'm proud our final budget includes over $360 million to support child care statewide, a third of which will provide direct payments to providers.

Kathy and I had a great time joining the Madison Reading Project and the Miracle League of Dane County to cheer on athletes of all abilities. We're thankful for two great local organizations who are making sure every kid has the chance to play ball and read. ⚾️📚
