Even if a pet does not ever go outside of its home, it can still get fleas and be allergic to the environment.  The home is not a bubble or completely sealed from the outside world to prevent fleas or environmental allergens (i.e. pollens) from coming in.

Chicken is often considered the most common food allergen in pets, but surprisingly it is not.  Beef is the top common offender for both dogs and cats with food allergy.

We should be allergy testing pets for allergy vaccine desensitization early in their atopic disease, rather than waiting until the allergy becomes chronic. Immunotherapy can potentially halt the progression of the allergy.

A reminder that it’s not normal for a dog to get ear infections. It’s not normal for a dog to be scratching frequently because it’s a dog. Just because a dog is an animal doesn’t mean it gets a pass on medical signs/symptoms that a person would never ignore for themselves.
