Reading recs for critical engagements with radical feminism written by other feminists:

It is true that MRAs and libfems disparage any radical-minded feminism but it is also true that the movement, as it exists today and particularly online, is full of racists and transmisogynists that give a lot of people pause when they encounter the “radfem” label.

Everybody starts somewhere, but it’s important to have a more complex and nuanced understanding of radical feminism than the Google-generated summary. Trans feminists and radical women of color, for instance, have waged critiques of the theory/praxis that should be considered.

Like just last month men were playing hot or not over the leaked Tea users… and 2016 pop feminism was reeling from Hillary’s loss.

Seeing reactions to that old Howard Stern clip makes me realize that people have this ridiculous idea that a) his kind of misogyny doesn’t still pervade popular culture and b) 2016 feminism was super radical lol.

All of this discourse is within the context of wider MeToo backlash in which narratives about “taking things too far” are promoted to restrengthen support & protection for rapists. Patriarchy is reasserting itself by crushing solidarity with victims & attacking their credibility.

It is very sobering to realize that the male left’s vision of revolution does not include struggle against women’s subordination & exploitation. It’s not that they merely view it as unimportant, rather there is an interest in maintaining the status quo to protect their benefits.

Current discourse is trying to erase the gendered nature of the IPV black women endure specifically, and it just goes to show how disrespected and undervalued Black women’s political thought is. Misogynoir has been extensively theorized for decades now.

The concept of “misandry” is ideological DARVO. Whether it’s dressed up in academic language by the left or spewed from the mouth of a red-pilled MRA, its goal is to undermine feminism by reversing the dynamics of oppression between men & women, obscuring patriarchal violence.
