here's even an American movie dated 1980, inspired from the testimony of Fania Fénelon, a female prisoner who played in the Auschwitz orchestra, starring famous English actress Vanessa Redgrave

This supposed "hidden fact" is the most mainstream of all, to the point that this picture of the orchestra is first thing visitors see, upon entering the "Arbeit macht frei" gate

There was an orchestra in Auschwitz I that played military marching bands, and was intended to facilitate the marching of the commandos to and from work.

As the official Auschwitz website will tell you there was a brothel in Auschwitz I. It was meant meant to relieve the non-Jewish male prisoners and keep them working. The prostitutes were female prisoners. The health conditions were horrible and abortions and STDs were the norm

There was a theatre in Auschwitz I, which was built when the camp was still a Polish military complex. Once overtaken by the Germans, it was used as a mean of entertainment for the SS. It's also located outside the camp fence and thus wasn't readily accessible to the inmates

This video is made up of footage is from the Theresienstadt Propagandalager mixed with footage from the Westerbork transit camp, which is not in Auschwitz

In another document from 1942, General Eichmann himself states that deportations of Jews to this subcamp served the function of "mantaining appearances to the outside"

There was also a small library in Birkenau. It was located in the Theresienstadt family camp, a subcamp that was set up explicitly for propaganda purposes. It's referred to in official internal document as "Propagandalager"

Survivor Marc Klein confirms that there was indeed a library in Auschwitz I, but it was accessible "only to a very small number of prominent prisoners". Books had to be smuggled and circulated clandestinely

The second one had approximately 1500 items of German-language Nazi literature. Most inmates either didn't know about the existence of such library, or couldn't read German. It was accessed only by a few privileged functionaries among the prisoners

There were, however, 2 libraries in Auschwitz I. The first one was reserved for the SS guards, and was referred to in official documents as "SS-Bücherei" (SS-library)

Regarding the libraries, this picture is not from Auschwitz, but from the WW1 Officer prisoner-of-war Camp in Pforzheim

That some form of sport activity was possible in a concentration camp, shouldn't surprise us, as we know of similar activities taking place in Stalin's GULAGs
