I realized years ago folks lack the capacity for large scale thinking which is why they focus on individual incidents when talking about things being “systemic.” They think “systemic” means “this one-off thing happens to a lot of ppl” and not “the design and function is violent.”
I’m slowly coming to the realization that concepts and phrases like “systemic” or “institutional” racism are just like, abstract terms for the average person, applied haphazardly. Or if it’s not explicit like a klan hood and a swastika they just don’t get it. It’s sad
