what i’m trying to get at here is that letterboxd is no longer insular. it used to cater to diehard film nerds, but its mainstream now, any bozo w a phone uses it. this is good, don’t gatekeep! but like imdb, its reflects popular tastes, its not an indicator on actual quality
i feel like people wrongly think everyone on letterboxd is a cinephile who watches tons of movies a year. in actuality like 75% of users probably misinterpret american psycho and think nolan is the second coming of jesus. joker has a 3.8 guys! it’s indicative of nothing!!
