In a profile I did on Dara last year, he spoke about how he would push to be allowed out to report stories after being tasked with filing archives as a rookie: "I never quit asking, barking at people to take me out reporting. I asked hundreds of times"

I often daydream about reporting trips with Dara - truly some of the best days of my life. He's one of a kind and I hope to see him free, back doing what he does best again soon.

Mech Dara was arrested yesterday. Trips with him are filled with these looks over the shoulder before he charges ahead, itching to get the story. But more than his tenacity or courage, being a nice guy’s what makes him the best. He can talk to anyone, and they want to talk to him

According to CamboJA News the VERY independent journalist Mech Dara seems to have been arrested in Sre Ambel. May all his friends keep an eye on this.

Mech Dara, the most fearless journalist in Cambodia, was arrested today -- whereabouts unknown hours later. Absolute beast of a reporter who dug into corruption, human trafficking, etc. Also loved by all who have worked with him. Hope he's released soon.

The FBI has now launched an investigation into abuse within The Truth ministry. Ex-minister Robert Corfield told me he had "no reason" to be concerned despite admitting to sexually abusing a boy for years in the 1980s.
