1/4 We are is pleased to announce the first preliminary release of The Dawn JWST Archive (DJA, pronounced "deejay"). This initiative will provide fully-reduced products of public JWST datasets that are validated and ready for science. https://t.co/AgIGJ3n5lc

I'm particularly proud of this figure! JWST is truly a spectacularly powerful and efficient machine.
3/4 We also provide a large compilation of fully-reduced public NIRSpec spectra, which already includes remarkable spectra of dozens of galaxies at very high redshifts. https://t.co/ydYPlF6nAb

New HLSP: FRESCO = JWST spectra and images to optimally cover regions in the GOODS-S and -N fields. First release is NIRCam images in two filters. Also includes deep mosaics of Hubble data in GOODS-N/S, HUDF, CANDELS, HUDF09/12, UVUDF, HDUV. https://t.co/Oku8y0x6aL

Great presentation from @OeschPascal of the beautiful FRESCO #JWST program and special acknowledgement again to @jorryt_m and the EIGER team for the insight of the filtered extractions, which has made getting to the first results sooo much easier and faster!
Just want to note that the survey paper on FRESCO (First Reionzation Era Spectroscopically Complete Observations) program is out. https://t.co/nGG8aWvkD2 Obviously, most of the credit for this effort is obviously to @OeschPascal, @gbrammer, @Naidu_Rohan, and many others, the

The msaexp code (0.6.6) and notebook are now updated for the full reductions of the sources highlighted in the recent paper from @Richarwirman: https://t.co/KJEuXLAIFd.

Spectacular presentation of the latest NIRSpec spectra of the CEERS z=4.9 galaxy and friends by @Richarwirman et al.
Interestingly, the final z for this object matches that of @JorgZavala's (MSA ID 2) at z=4.9 (where's [OIII], by the way?π€¨). And two other objects in the MSA observation showed up at the same z, suggesting an overdensity as claimed by @Rohan_Naidu et al.

For enthusiasts, the nodded count-rate images are combined by simply rolling 18-pixel cutouts up and down by 6 pixels and then making a local background from this combination, again offset by 6 pixels. Here's what the cutouts look like without the bkg removed.

Thanks again to @Richarwirman et al. for their work planning and executing the observations and to the #JWST and #NIRSpec teams for making them possible! (7/8)

These statements are very much not refereed, but I'll post my new bike as collateral behind them! Much more to come from these beautiful data...real science, for example. (6/8)

Maisie's galaxy, however, appears to be confirmed to be at very high-z π₯³ ! If CEERS-1749 were at z~16, its spectrum would look more like the one at the bottom, but with the step function shifted to the right towards longer wavelengths. (5/8)

Even without wave calib. this appears to beautifully and robustly confirm @Rohan_Naidu's hypothesis that CEERS-1749 is not at z>16, but rather it 1) has strong emission lines at lower-z that mimic a continuum break in the photometry 2) is part of a z~5 group/protocluster (4/8)

Below are simple cutouts from the full-frame #NIRSpec exposure files. The top is the z=16 candidate---CEERS-1749 from Naidu et al.---the middle two are nearby neighbors, and the last is "Maisie's galaxy" found by @astrosteven and @ceers_jwst. (3/8)

Still waiting for @MAST_News to work its way through the data from @Richarwirman's #JWST program that were taken last night. But a crude processing of the *raw* data appears to reveal that the cat in the box is ... 𧡠(1/8)
