Leprosy still exists in over half of countries worldwide. 200,000 diagnosed yearly. Early diagnosis + Multidrug Therapy = cure. Let’s stop it in its tracks. @garydench

Apparently telling a loved one that they are loved and precious and you don’t want them to commit suicide is now “coercion”. This is Orwellian darkness. Up is down, black is white, goodness is evil. What a wicked thing this bill is.

No need for Halloween costumes this weekend. The Assisted Suicide bill is one of the most terrifying things that threatens to hit the statute books and, if it passes, the consequences will affect us all. This should scare all of us who will one day be elderly, sick or vulnerable.

Very pleased, and grateful, to have been given these two little pieces of history!

By the close of day two, the verdict was in. The Bill’s supporters were cornered. Their arguments were ground down by the weight of expert evidence. What began as a campaign “for compassion” has collapsed ..

It looks like they are just trying to force this bill through the Lords as well without proper debate and scrutiny
EXTRAORDINARY! Baroness Coffey, who is entitled under standing orders to ask questions to witnesses, is prevented from doing so despite politely addressing the Chair, who’d started the meeting early without warning. Judge for yourself if his response was appropriate.

Still banging this drum because it really matters that the Lords Select Committee on the Leadbeater Bill has refused to receive any written evidence. In doing so, they have blocked any reliable way to disseminate information to peers on a Bill that so radically changes our
Think you have something useful to tell the Lords about Leadbeater’s bill? Think again… “the Committee is not seeking or accepting written evidence other than from invited witnesses”! Anyone aware of any precedent for this? To actively say “we don’t want to know”?

If this assisted suicide law comes in, and we see the endless injustices and harms that follow afterwards, will anyone then hold Falconer to account for the bold untruths he was willing to utter to get the law through?
Falconer says Clause 5 requires doctors to make “sure all options are made available”. This is wholly misleading. There is absolutely no requirement to make other options available. Kim Leadbeater rejected an amendment to guarantee a meeting with a palliative care specialist.

Extraordinary indeed.
🔥EXTRAORDINARY!! Lord Falconer cites Sir Chris Whitty’s evidence in support of using the Mental Capacity Act for assisted suicide. But Whitty later had to withdraw the testimony he gave on this! https://t.co/ojs5I5zXbx

So moving to visit the ‘Speak Their Name’ exhibition in Parliament. The beautiful quilts are created by families & friends in loving memory of someone they’ve lost to suicide. A powerful reminder of the need for continued work on suicide prevention: https://t.co/XvzgTadokI

It is also the feast of St Edward the Confessor, saintly king of England, who uniquely amongst our pre-Reformation saints, lies undisturbed in his tomb at his foundation of Westminster Abbey. St Edward, pray for England!

‘Rather awkwardly, Lord Falconer was forced to begin his statement with an apology for failing to disclose that the lobby group Dignity in Dying had funded the printing of literature sent to peers.‘
