There is a sizeable gap in our understanding of the economic impact of a platform’s rules and regulations on complementors (i.e. game/app developers, lenders, etc.). While platform governance strategies change constantly we found similar “evolutionary trajectories” 3/9

We focus on 4 platforms that are dominant in their respective markets: iOS App Store, Steam, Kickstarter, and Kiva. Note: last 2 are not typical for-profit outfits. Typically, research in media studies discusses the impact of platform governance on end-users (i.e. you & me). 2/9
