I’m sad to be leaving the wonderful world of WA kelp & shellfish and all my colleagues, but it’s just goodbye for now 🤗🦪🌱 everyone knows my heart is made of kelp. And I’m stoked to hang out with the birds!

Buoys are located at sites where we also monitor biodiversity using @ReefCheck SCUBA surveys 🐟🦀🌱 So excited to have finally splashed this long-term kelp forest environmental data collection project, many years in the making @restorationfund

Very excited to share that we installed the first 3 of our #kelpforest monitoring buoys at sites in central #PugetSound last week! Each buoy has a surface & benthic sensor package monitoring temp, pH, DO & conductivity, and a benthic light sensor too.

I've heard fairly often that bull kelp is important to the Coast Salish tribes, but didn't know any indigenous names for it, so I tried to find a few. Naming species in #indigenouslanguages isn't a big thing to do, but I think it's still important ❤️ #phycologyfriday
