I wrote about traveling to Bhutan as a closeted trans person, and what happened when I got hammered with the king. https://t.co/qEZssrTHpH

This week on Seeking: the incredible Gabriel Mac of @fwwhenever on psychedelics, sexual trauma and reckoning with his childhood history. "If I could have gotten away with not dealing with any of it...I probably would've taken that option. But containment works until it doesn't."

I just walked into a men’s room and a guy was standing at a urinal saying “Are you doing alright? I love you,” and I thought he was talking to his penis before I realized he was on a BlueTooth call

I have appealed my victims compensation claim. I wrote about it here. https://t.co/d9yM75t7pE And: How many fellow sex-abuse/rape/domestic violence/crime survivors are being told their claims CANNOT be approved, when that’s not what the VERY LAW that the denial cites says?

I spent my life savings on sex-abuse treatment. A new law made it harder to get reimbursed.

The Ohio Attorney General’s signed statement to me that the "law requires" denying my claim is not true. Were I not a reporter myself, I wouldn’t have fact-checked it via local news, pulling the statute myself, and calling a lawyer to confirm I was reading it right. So:

The new law does not actually “require” that my victim compensation claim be denied. Thanks to excellent local reporting by @JoshSweigart, I read that the law also gave the office the power to approve any claim it deemed worthy regardless of the deadline. Which means:

I filed a victims compensation claim, not knowing the new filing deadline had gone into effect just months before, and received a denial that “the law requires that your claim be denied.” BUT THE THING IS:

Ohio’s new law excludes anyone who was victimized as a child/teen but isn’t ready to come forward by their 24th birthday. Or domestic violence/adult rape survivors who can’t or won’t file a police report against their attackers within a strict period of time. So:

At the same time that Ohio lawmakers revised the victim compensation law to theoretically include more people, they made the deadline for filing - which previously didn’t exist at all - three years after the crime, or at age 24 for victims who were minors. Which means:

Crime Victim Services was making egregious denials, including a teenager who said she was kidnapped and assaulted because she had drugs in her system - which her kidnappers fed her https://t.co/MpXIkC4yJ1 So they revised the law to make fewer unfair exclusions. But:

Rape victims and even the families of those murdered have been denied compensation in program designed to ease the recovery for violent crime victims.

There’s a crime victims compensation program in every state (PSA! FYI! The More You Know), and you can submit a claim to get reimbursed (up to $50,000 in Ohio where my rapes as a minor occurred) for expenses you paid for counseling and medical bills etc. But:

So. I spent my life savings on sex-abuse treatment, and if this were an internet headline, it’d be, “And You Won’t Believe What Happened Next!!” Basically:

I got fired from @thetimes magazine for refusing to take mostly nude pictures of my trans body.
