One of the worst things to come out of the streaming wars is the fact that I simply cannot buy movies I like anymore. I was always happy paying $15 for a movie I liked. But that one time purchase isn’t as lucrative as a $15/m sub so now I either have to subscribe or… you know.

Q: should I start hosting a sort of book club at conventions? I don’t get to go to many (probably only 1-3 a year for the next couple years) but I love reading and I think having a “Soren’s Book Club” panel may be fun. What do you think?.

a minuscule thing that bugs me about a lot of SciFi is that they fill the entire city with buildings that look cyberpunk like this. As if the city was entirely built 20 minutes ago and had no preexisting infrastructure??.

my great grandfather’s family were small business owners in Sevastopol during the Bolshevik revolution. Because they had *any* property and a modicum of wealth many of them were executed and the rest had to flee the country. They were neither Nazis nor oligarchs.

Not *every* problem will be like this, but any problem involving money absolutely will. Because when you use an OTA you do not pay the hotel. You pay the OTA. Then the OTA pays the hotel. You’re not a customer of the hotel, you’re a customer of a corporation that does not care.

To explain WHY as simply as I can:. You want a hotel. You go to an Online Travel Agency. They charge you $85 for a room at Hotel. You go to Hotel. You have a problem and come see me. I cannot help you. You must talk to the OTA. If you had booked with me I could.

once again begging and pleading with everyone to NEVER use a third party online travel agency to book hotels.
