I remember the day @RevMariama wrote this note, and I think of these three sentences often. Iâm committed to the zoning and affordable housing work needed to tear down barriers to neighborhood access and wealth accumulation.
@khobson65 @Short_epics @funkyjaybo @_EmilyNorton The history of zoning laws is deeply tied to the history of racism. Fighting to âmaintain the character of the neighborhoodâ is not new. Concerns about âdensityâ are often coded around what kind of people will move into multi-unit housing.

Passing no bills for a year and a half and then saying you ran out of time to pass bills at the last second is an astonishing way of governing. This is humiliating compared to so many states.

This is selfish: âother people bringing children to parks need to pay a fee.â This is no different than voters starving public education budgets & fighting zoning reform. Itâs the mentality of âa city should provide only the services and access I require and not a dime more.â
The Parks & Rec Dept. in #Arlington says residents are complaining about daycare children constantly using the parks. They're proposing daycares/preschools in town pay anywhere from $3,000 to $5,000 in fees to use them (money will be used to maintain parks) Thoughts? @wbz

Regardless of your politics, some fascinating takes in here about a divide in the Mass Dem party. I do agree the Boston Globe did run anti-union, sensationalist headlines and editorials here â seeking to fam flames to sell them clicks.

Deb Crossleyâs patience & knowledge were saintly as head of our zoning comm. She made time for questions from all neighbors, never got petty, & led with her heart. She just wanted to help make #NewtonMa accessible to more familiesâ€ïž. Will always be a fan. https://t.co/SiAZZfApCW

The stateâs MBTA communities law can put local officials in a difficult spot, drafting zoning laws their communities oppose. Deborah Crossley learned that the hard way.
