I'm trying out a new platform for my mixtapes, ditching mixcloud, and I'm starting off with Escapade from 2022 - balearic, italo, deep, jazz - all kinds of house, full daydream inner peace escape mode. link in following tweet:
Autechre just dropped a 5.5 hour mix of "some of the stuff that was floating around us at the time" of the original Artificial Intelligence comp on Warp and my god, I'm not even a fifth through it but here you go
I just finished the series Mr Inbetween, wow what an incredible, brief show. somewhere between Sopranos and Breaking Bad in tone but funnier and with much more of a lowkey, slice of life vibe - yet the stakes and danger seem all the more real because of this. I loved it.
Albini's production on this GYBE album is unbelievable, a high water mark for post rock, one that shook the way I heard music at the time. So glad I reached for it after revisiting Big Black
several ppl have told me to listen to this over the past month and let me just say, you guys were right. oh my god. not even halfway through and I'm drowning in this (in a good way)
If I could take one single item back in time to absolutely scramble the mind of someone in the 90s, it would be this snoop + martha stewart holiday wine set
Every few months another cultural institution gets trashed by some conglomerate for short term profit and loads of talented, hard working people lose their jobs. We mourn it and we move on, but this world is getting remade by those with no interest in art, culture, or people.
I heard the news about Damo Suzuki and immediately had to blast "Halleluwah" - listening with my son now, telling him about one of the greatest bands to ever exist, soaking in Damo's shambolic magic. RIP to one of the realest to ever do it
If the slightest inconvenience makes you miss out on music from your favorite artists, you don't actually value them or their art in any meaningful way
I decided to get into Low, a band so many friends love but I just hadn't listened yet. it is WILD how exactly my kinda thing this is.. I wish I'd been listening all along. what are everyone's favorites of their discography?
lmao it absolutely would. this is the kinda nonsense you say when you're wealthy and $10,000 is pocket change. this is Lucille Bluth-tier "how much could a banana possibly cost?" nonsense
BLASTING this right now in memory of Steve. Shout out to my older stepbrothers for introducing me to truly dangerous sounding music when I was definitely too young to appreciate it.
still funny to me how SP got lumped in with grunge when they were clearly coming from the direction of 70s psych rock, with dreampop and shoegaze influences on top
RIP Steve Albini. what can I even say? he's an absolute legend, the musical landscape wouldn't look the same without his incalculable influence. and however often I disagreed with his takes on here, I loved that he was out there speaking his mind, always
Anyone else remember Girls? I always thought the Broken Dreams Club EP was their best release by a stretch.. and I'm having a great afternoon revisiting for the first time in at least ten years
It's been beautiful today, seeing the outpouring of love for Damo Suzuki from so many friends around the world. I was holding off, but now it's time to blast one of my all-time favorite albums by anyone, anywhere: Future Days 🌬️
Nuclear-tier bad music take. Quick scroll through the replies and RTs and it's easy to see this is one of those "return to tradition" accounts deeply rooted in racism, so don't share the actual tweet & give em attention
The new Cindy Lee album had me reaching back for Women releases which then led me back to Vietcong (aka Preoccupations) and man, I've gotta say, this self titled record still totally rips
Vini Reilly of The Durutti Column. even began one of his late albums with a quote from Tony Wilson asking, "is this an art form, or are you just a technician?" humble to the extreme yet a virtuoso in every way that matters.
who are the other journeymen of music? the ones who, like albini, think of themselves as workers and not artist-genuises? so far all i can think of is bob mould.
Ending the workday with my favorite Sun Ra album and just one of the greatest pieces of music I own in general. I've heard probably a dozen or two of his releases over the years but I still feel like a Ra newbie - what are his best albums??
It's a very good mail day. Finally got my hands on an album that first blew my mind 23+ years ago. Spent my twenties so broke that still I've got a lot of *foundational* albums missing from my collection. Feels amazing to hold this, hearing it cranked up loud on a sunny afternoon
I've never seen American Movie but loads of my friends with amazing taste have talked it up a lot over the years and I just saw that it's on criterion channel now so I'll finally catch it soon - figured you guys might want to know too!
One of the most joyful videos I've ever seen. Perfect example of what I mean when I say there's no need for children's music - all music is great for kids! And they're more open minded than 99% of all adults when it comes to music too
Everyone talks about Spirit of Eden and Laughing Stock - rightfully, they're 2 of the best albums ever made - but The Colour of Spring gets just as much if not more play around my house. Immaculate bridge between synthpop and.. well, heaven.
Halfway through "Halleluwah" the first time twenty-odd years ago, I instantly knew that Can was going to be one of my favorite bands. It might be one of my single favorite tracks from anyone ever and even at 18 minutes, it's never long enough
Was trying to think of iconic winter rap albums besides Liquid Swords and realized I hadn't heard The Cold Vein in ages. god this sounds so good. what are some other great winter rap albums??
Purelink again. Seriously the best deep concentration music I've heard all year. If you're into dub techno and Hiroshi Yoshimura you need to check out Signs
Update: surgery went well, he's doing great and healing up - my son recovered enough to ask for pizza for dinner so I picked one up from our favorite spot and then we played some spooky videogames together. Thank you guys so much for the kind words and support!! 💜
I just checked and I've got 116 albums on my 2023 list so far and at least 30 of those I tagged as "loved." I've got an equally long list of albums I still want to hear. Can't emphasize enough how much incredible music gets released all the time - I'll never catch up & that's ok
When I find music on bandcamp and I press play and it starts on a song in the middle of the album, I say "nope" and immediately start track one instead. I figure they want us to hear the single first but I wanna know how the whole album feels y'know? yes I am a silly man.
