@AsmGrayson By educating financial institutions about economic abuse, California will take a critical step toward better supporting survivors in building the financial security they need to heal, rebuild, and thrive.

@AsmGrayson If passed, the bill would require the Department of Financial Protection and Innovation to make online resources related to economic abuse of survivors of intimate partner violence available to financial institutions (aka banks and credit unions).

@AsmGrayson Access to resources can equip financial institutions with the information they need to better understand economic abuse and serve their survivor customers.

@AsmGrayson Financial institutions must play a critical role in protecting survivors’ bank accounts from economic abuse.

We worked with @AsmGrayson to introduce a bill earlier this year that will continue California as a leader in addressing economic abuse.

@NydiaVelazquez @SenTinaSmith If passed, the bill will create a working group to study economic abuse happening within financial institutions and provide recommendations for how these same institutions can better support and protect their survivor customers.

@NydiaVelazquez @SenTinaSmith In the U.S., there is little data available on how economic abuse occurs within banks and other financial institutions. This new federal bill would change that.

Today, @NydiaVelazquez and @SenTinaSmith have introduced a groundbreaking bill to address economic abuse.

She will be joined by Rachna Khare, Daya Houston’s Executive Director, as they discuss economic justice, sustainability within the gender-based violence movement, and ways in which we can achieve sustainability for survivors, organizations, and advocates.
