A year ago I was trapped in my house wondering how this would ever end. Today I got vaccinated. That's really quite something. Amazing work by scientists & NHS.
Never been a fan of this government (or many for that matter), but watching this bunch of fucking pricks decimate my career and my industry again in order to cover up their own shitty behaviour makes me want to vomit with rage.
When people drunkenly talk through a good show I just feel pity. Like, you are at the kind of show other people will claim to have been at in the future; you were fucking *there* and you missed it. You fucking moron.
God damnit. Just heard the news about Terry Hall. What an absolute sadness. The Specials were one of the most important bands for me as a kid. Taught me many things I needed to know. Gutted. RIP.
If I should fall from grace with God
Where no doctor can relieve me
If I'm buried in the sod
But the angels won't receive me
Let me go, boys, let me go, boys
Let me go down in the mud, where the rivers all run dry
Went to see the Taylor Swift “Eras” film. Brilliant show. Also “You’re on your own kid” is a slam dunk masterpiece of a song, and a mic drop reply to anyone who’s still questioning her talent as a writer.
I cannot, CANNOT tell you how much this meant to me. To my band, my crew, the stage crew, everyone working download, and the crowd…. Thank you. This is the only thing I know how to do. My heart is full. Show 2526.
And there it is folks. Independent Venue Love. 14 venue shows, over £150k raised in total. Extremely grateful, proud, honoured and humbled. One thing to say:
Thank you.
Today I feel like I can breathe out, after four years of holding my breath. It's not perfect, it's not a return to 'normalcy', but it's something. Big love USA.
Next year, 2018, is going to be a big one for me. We’re looking at a brand new studio album (which we’re mixing at the moment, very exciting), and a huge world tour to go with that. We’re aiming to get absolutely everywhere so look out. Have a good one folks!
Last thing - interesting note from
@musicweek
...
"From the bottom to the top: A little more than 15 years after his first album, Sleep Is For The Week, sold 1,099 copies to debut on the chart’s bottom rung, No.200, Frank Turner’s ninth, FTHC, opens at No.1."
NOT BAD.
Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more. My 7th album, 'Be More Kind', is out now. I'm exhausted, excited, nervous, confident, relieved and expectant, all at the same time, but most of all I'm happy to share these songs with you all. Listen now:
A medium length rant incoming: thread, aimed primarily at established touring bands, promoters, booking agents and managers. Please share accordingly. TLDR; PLAY THE REGIONS.
Genuinely gutted about Meat Loaf. Enormous fan since I was a kid. A friend got him to do a video for my 39th birthday. It was 27 minutes long and hugely entertaining. One of a kind. RIP.
As ever, reluctant to comment on politics, but woke up to the news from back home… Total fucking shambles but extremely glad to see the back of one buffoon at least. Bye bye dickhead.
10 years ago today, standing on a weird hill for
@Olympics
opening ceremony. Still one of the stranger moments in my career, but it made my mum proud as punch.
It’s
#worldmentalhealthday
today, I’m told. Remembering the lost. Am not and will never be an expert on this stuff, but if you need to talk to someone, please do. More people will care and listen than you’re telling yourself right now. Look after yourself.
Moved house last week. Life is a sea of unidentified cardboard boxes for the foreseeable future. But it takes me about 5 minutes to walk down to the sea now, and for this I am unendingly gratefuly.
Especially when I have a bit of a hangover. Clears the head!
I'm excited to announce my new album 'No Man's Land' and podcast series 'Tales From No Man's Land' to accompany the album! I'll be sharing more news very soon...

Every time I hear that Drake song on the radio, it sounds to me like he’s saying “Gosplan”, which makes me think he’s singing about Soviet economic policy, which would be pretty niche, but who knows what’s cool these days.
I am absolutely STAGGERED by the donations tonight. Holy fucking shit. Thank you all so much. My crew are also extremely grateful. You (and only you) genuinely kept 11 people in house and home tonight.
I had a rough day today for various personal reasons, and two things pulled me through. The infinite love and patience of my fiancée (love you J) and a barnstormer crowd in Madison. I’m a very fortunate man.
FTHC is here! An album made in weird & trying circumstances, but one that feels like a restatement of purpose to me. I'm pleasantly surprised to report that, as I enter my forties & add another album to the pile, I'm as fired up, inspired & hungry as ever.
New season kicks off March 15!
And unlike that guy who ordered Fireball at dinner and kept saying “crypto is the future,” this is one date you’ll want to remember.
Well. This is a lovely thing - LIS gold in the UK, officially. Thanks everyone who listened, believed, came to shows and so on. And especially thanks to Tristan, Xtra Mile and the Souls. Who'da thunk it, 12 years ago?
Making a big announcement next week about a certain multi-day festival next year, and I am SO FUCKING EXCITED ABOUT IT it's hard to contain myself. All will be revealed very soon...
Thanks for the birthday messages today folks. 41 years of avoiding cliffs and sharp objects. I have graduated to wearing nice shirts (model was dressed by J Guise). Hope everyone had a good Xmas.
BE MORE KIND. The new album & first ever world tour.
Pre-order the album now for special early access to the UK/EU dates & limited signed formats:
US & Rest of the world... stay tuned.
This Thursday I will be taking a plain black marker and drawing a line through the top item on my bucket list. Playing with
@springsteen
in London, on invitation. Pretty big deal.
We’re on the main stage at 3.30pm sharp - all day show. Don’t miss it! Hope to see you there.
I still love touring as much as I ever did. But having somewhere to come back to is pretty nice. Especially when my local caff now knows my breakfast order by heart. Good to be home.
HEY EVERYONE! Micah, Jess, Vanessa and I are playing a LIVE SHOW here on Facebook TOMORROW NIGHT! Tune in on this page, going live at 8.30pm (UK time; 4.30pm East Coast, 1.30pm West Coast, 7.30am Australia), 3 sets, same as I would be playing at a regular solo show.
Southampton, show 2703.
It’s a wrap. What a tour. Thanks to
@wearepetneeds
(for the last 7 months!!),
@truckstoph
(the greatest),
@mashpmusic
(star of the tour),
@_sleepingsouls
and the crew, and of course YOU.
Sleep time now. More UK shows next year.
Exceedingly proud of my big sis Joanna Young being elected as a Green councillor in Scotforth West, Lancaster. At a time when far too many people find it easy to sneer at active participation in politics, she's stepping up. Respect.
Happy father's day. It's nice to see a lot of people who have good (/any) relationships with their dads. Not all of us are so lucky, so appreciate that, if you have it.
But if ever I stray from the path I follow
Take me down to the English Channel
Throw me in where the water is shallow
And then drag me on back to shore
Just realised my brain has spent the morning idly mashing up Elton John “the circle of life” with Radiohead “creep”. Hence:
“It’s the circle of life,
The wheel of fortune,
What the hell am I doing here?
I don’t belong here...”
Actually works quite well.
Still getting my head around how insanely generous everyone was yesterday around the FB show. Can't thank you all enough, you've made a huge difference to people who matter to me immensely.
