Unit tests verify an API’s behavior. Writing them may surface bugs in your code. Documentation does the same, but for your API’s *design*. Write docs to surface ways you can improve your architecture.
One of the great things about documenting your code early (thanks DocC team!) is that sometimes you find yourself writing a long paragraph explaining an edge case callers should avoid, and you ask yourself "maybe I could just fix the design so that's not a problem?".
