Jimmy Lai has spent over 1,800 days in prison. I echo President Trump’s call for Beijing to conclude this ordeal and release Mr. Lai.

‼️ Tomorrow, a brave 🇨🇳 national, Guan Heng, will have an asylum hearing in New York. He came to America after photographing evidence of the CCP’s genocide of Uyghurs in Xinjiang. If Guan is deported to China, he will face certain imprisonment and torture, and possibly death.

Jimmy Lai is a hero who has risked everything in the fight for a free Hong Kong. His conviction in this sham trial tells you everything you need to know about Xi Jinping's tyranny, and his fear of anyone who stands up for what is right. https://t.co/inZPZ5Cyxd

We condemn in the strongest terms the unjust and vindictive verdict imposed upon Jimmy Lai by the Hong Kong authorities—a verdict that makes a mockery of the rule of law. This was a sham trial that fell far short of international fair-trial standards. Among numerous egregious

6/ Jimmy Lai is guilty only of believing Hong Kong people deserve freedom. Every month without action raises the risk he will never walk free again. The US must show Beijing that there is a real cost to repression — not just words. The time to act is NOW. #FreeJimmyLai /end

4/ Congress has concrete, bipartisan tools ready to move: • H.Res. 930—on Jimmy Lai & Hong Kong political prisoners • HKETO Certification Act (H.R. 2661) • Hong Kong Judicial Sanctions Act (H.R. 733 / S. 1755) • Stop CCP Money Laundering Act (S. 1339 / H.R. 3264)

3/ In the coming weeks, the US should: • Impose targeted sanctions on the 3 judges (Esther Toh, Alex Lee, Susana D'Almada Remedios) & officials responsible for this political prosecution. • Make Lai’s release a condition for @POTUS’s planned state visit to Beijing in April

2/ The court has set a mitigation hearing for Jan 12. After that, judges will fix the sentencing date. At 78, with diabetes and health damaged by 1,800+ days in prison, any real term could be a life sentence. This is a critical window to raise the cost of jailing him for life.

"The #HongKong court has been compromised and politicized in the past 5 years -#JimmyLai's guilty verdict is another stamp of proof that the court system is no longer the system that we once respected," our colleague @frances_hui tells @NPR's @EmilyZFeng. https://t.co/CjsYinsAq3

Truly disturbing to see about the letter & the Chinese embassy's response justifying it as a legitimate act to pursue exiled activists. The CCP is responsible for this. We CANNOT let this happen to ANYONE ANYMORE. My heart goes out to @carmenkamanlau & @tedhuichifung's family.
Utterly deplorable #TransnationalRepression: Sexually explicit letters & posters w/ faked images target HKDC's @carmenkamanlau in UK & @tedhuichifung in Australia. The Chinese gov't says, "It is legitimate & reasonable to pursue wanted fugitives." New low.
