Following an engaging beer tasting at @UnBarredBrewery, it is time to visit the Fourth Arch 2024 Feature Pub, @thebasketmakers. A backstreet pub that anyone who enjoys an energetic community vibe would be very fortunate to have as their local, as well as beer enthusiasts.

Next on the itinerary is the Hand in Hand: a small city pub offering a very respectable array of most excellent beers from @HandBrewCo, @madsquirrelbrew and others in a cosy and welcoming environment. #Brighton has some amazing hostelries.

Fourth Arch 2024 starts in the Black Dove in #Brighton. Pints of Schneider beers, amongst other fine delicacies have been enjoyed. The calm ambiance and gothic interior (an amazing downstairs room) makes for a strong start to our exploration of the city.

Enjoying a pint of @SharpsBrewery Twin Coast Pale Ale in the @sevenstonesinn on St Martin’s in the Isles of Scilly. The pub claims to offer the best pub view in the country. Whether or not this is the view of everyone, it’s certainly “up there” with the best! @discoverscilly

A very fine pint of @WyeValleyBrew Butty Bach. A particular favourite of mine, since it was the first real ale I ever tasted whilst on holiday in #Bideford #Devon in 1998. This one, consumed at the @thediscoverycdf is in very good shape and enjoyed within the pub’s new vibe.

A great pint of @BlueMoonBrewCo at the @KingStreetRun on the way to a work Christmas event. The place has an American bar vibe and takes its name from an original run of 7 pubs on the relatively short Kings Street. A fun write up is here:

The Fourth Arch AGM 2023 took place at #York’s oldest licensed inn, @oldestarreinne, with pints of @BlackSheepBeer and others, along with a very fine supper. The formal agenda proceedings followed, with speeches and various awards. Business concluded, we move on to the next pub.

The Fourth Arch are hugely impressed by the charitable outreach work of @brewyorkbeer, who take part in the Fosters Distributed Production Programme, by assisting in the collection of raw materials.

The Fourth Arch channel their inner Vikings with an Axe Throwing session at The Hilt in the centre of York. Congratulations to Matt, who scored the highest in the competition!

We just had a fantastic tour of @brewyorkbeer with James, our Tour Guide. James gave a hugely engaging account of the brewery’s journey to date, the fundamentals of the brewing process and, importantly, a brilliant narrative to our sampling, handling questions excellently.

On to the next two #York pubs now, where the groups splits and swaps between @thebluebellyork and @TheHopYork, owing to group size restrictions in the former. Excellent beer in both, from @SaltBeerFactory, @ossettbrewery, @BradfieldBrew and @woldtopbrewery.

Our first pub of Day 2 on the Fourth Arch trip 2023 in #York is the @MarketCatYork to sample the many and varied delights on offer. Those present chose the @shinybrewery Thunder Bridge, @thornbridge Lucaria, @TwoByTwoBrewing Porter. A cordial city pub with a good vibe.

By and by, we proceed on to the @goldenballyork for the penultimate stop of the evening. Soaking in the rich ambience in traditional surroundings in spaces strategically split for customers to enjoy the pub from different perspectives, we sup ales from @Ilkleybrewery.

Our annual Fourth Arch trip 2023 starts off at our allocated “Muster Pub”, the @PhoenixInnYork, a charming local pub just outside the old city walls, on the South East side. Pints of @SaltaireBrewery South Island were ordered and are going down very well indeed.

A lovely today at the @midnorfolkrly for their annual Beer Festival. With a broad range of beers and ciders from across the country, visitors can enjoy their selection at the bars station in #EastDereham, on the train or the other end of the line at Thuxton.

A quick pit stop in the @freepresspub in Cambridge on the way to meet a friend. I’ve always loved this little backstreet gem of a local, with its quirky corners, board games, lovely food, friendly welcome and excellent beer. This pint of @TimothyTaylors Landlord is no exception.
