This is worth the short time it takes to watch, esp given our recent southern CA slide: How It Happens | Mudslides https://t.co/ERp0wNV81B via @nytvideo

A steep slope, made unstable by rain or fire, can give way without warning, creating a destructive torrent of rock and mud.

I've just launched a youtube channel to support Forest Health at Cal Poly, winter quarter 2018. The channel highlights 10 forest health problems with biological causes. The videos are a little rough in places and I welcome your feedback

Nice write up on Ecosphere paper led by Richard Cobb @forestpathogens and Katinka Ruthrof on post tree die-off dynamics and management options using conceptual state and transition models: https://t.co/ht5IMLRt7p https://t.co/VyOTzBkYjt

The state of Missouri is recruiting a forest pathologist to be based in Columbia. Looks like a good job:

We've got a new analysis in Ecosphere that streamlines adaptive management of tree mortality. We used State and Transition modeling -- a technique popular with range land management -- to show how you can relate mortality events across the globe

@noamross We're getting our second application of SODDr - a study of disease resistance vs tolerance - ready for submission. As said: super flexible

Chris's work has done a tremendous amount to link plant epi and broader disease ecology -- solved a lot of practical problems also

P ramorum reestablished quickly. It seems clear that disease-fire interactions where important, what about repeated fire and disease?

Keep in mind, these results are from the 2008 Basin Fire; the 2016 Soberanes Fire impacted the *same* areas only 8 years later

Increased burn severity occurred in forests adjacent to disease impacted stands- this is likely driven by disease-generated fuels
