Looting and scientific vandalism on Earth has scientists worried we could destroy evidence of extraterrestrial life before we even find it.

Rare opportunity for a geoconservation PhD, with the fab palaeo team at Birmingham and Natural England.
PhD opportunity with @ButlerLabBham, @NaturalEngland & me on the nature, importance and protection of British vertebrate fossil track sites [image by @MarkWitton]. Field, desk & lab-based project. Potential funding through @CENTA_NERC - more info here https://t.co/4ZYmjlDn32

1/3 Earlier this year, geoconservationist and @AussieAstrobio PhD candidate @clarefletcher42 spent four weeks living and working at the Mars Desert Research Station in Utah. This remote station provides scientists with a “testing ground” for identifying evidence of early life.

I am extremely proud to have finally got my first journal article published! It's been almost 9 months of back and forth since first submitting to the journal, and was a similar amount of work to write in the first place.

Recently, I spent a month at @TheMarsSociety's @MDRSupdates research station. The 2 crews taught me a lot about research, living on Mars, myself, and my own work and how I could conduct it on Mars. I'm super grateful to have been supported by @TheMarsSociety and @marssocietyoz

Can't wait for this to be my home for 4 weeks, come Jan 20th!
The first snowfall of the year at our #MDRS campus in southern Utah, letting Crew 289 experience a more frozen version of Mars as they approach the end of their 2-week analog mission. #marsanalog #stem #utah @LifeAtPurdue #themarssociety #winteronmars

🌍 #GeodiversityDay is not just about rocks and fossils, its also about the people who bring the stories of our planet to life. 💬 Be inspired by Aswatha🇮🇳, Sherene🇯🇲, Priscilla🇺🇸, and Clare🇦🇺 who share their passion in this @UNESCO article: https://t.co/0aZqBy6ND4

Happy @UNESCO @GeodiversityDay! I'm so proud to work in geoscience & geoconservation for Earth & Mars. It means the world to me to spread my love of protecting our geodiversity at #UNCOPUOS or in this interview: https://t.co/BjvV8oeZV6 What amazing geoscientists surround me😍
🥳 It's #GeodiversityDay! 🌎 Today is a day to celebrate geodiversity, and remember this year's theme, that Geodiversity Is For Everyone!

Day 3 of #ASRC & that's a wrap! I'm leaving having learned a lot, particularly about space weather + the Antarctic (didn't anticipate hearing so much of these, but I enjoyed thoroughly) + more. My heart is full feeling that the Aus space community is just that - a community 💖🚀

Day 2 #ASRC! Dr Carl Seubert of @SmartSatCRC, the 1st plenary today, has reminded us all of Australia's history of bold exploration to conduct ground-breaking science. Aus can and should continue this legacy! But we need the funding & jobs for fundamental sciences as well as R&D

Day 1 of #ASRC done! A year ago this was the 1st conference I went to in my PhD, so it's a privilege to attend again and reflect on the work I've done this last year and the connections I've made (many from ASRC). Looking forward to the next 2 days and more talks and connections!

The ACA's Prof. Martin Van Kranendonk led a trip of @NASA @esa @CSIRO & @AusSpaceAgency scientists and program leaders to the Pilbara, WA to see the oldest convincing evidence of life. These 2.7-3.5 billion year old stromatolite fossils help guide the search for life on Mars.
Strap in – it’s time to meet your ancient ancestors! Fossilized microbial communities in Western Australia are helping scientists hone their skills for detecting potential ancient life on Mars. Join us on an expedition to see what our own backyard can teach us about the search

Thanks for providing an opportunity for an aspiring astronaut to ask a current astronaut a question about the Aussie Space Sector! #QandA Not sure it seems possible to stay researching Mars in Aus, but I'm thrilled to see @astro_meganne repping Aussies in the astronaut corps 🚀

1/2 @UNSW scientists Prof. Martin Van Kranendonk, Luke Steller (@steller_luke) & Clare Fletcher (@clarefletcher42) recently led a two-way learning initiative in the Pilbara region, WA, where the rock fossils hold the oldest evidence of life on Earth!

This trip was a joy, and I learn so much every time I visit thr Pilbara! Big thanks to everyone involved and to @UNSWScience for the write up!
A great article by @UNSWScience about our recent Pilbara trip collabing with the Marble Bar School, community, & Nyamal knowledge holders! Thanks to ACA members Prof Martin Van Kranendonk, @steller_luke & @clarefletcher42 for their knowledge & organisation https://t.co/Al8EMblxjV

Check out this chat I had about my work on @BoilingPointFM with @InnaOsmol and Liz Surovic! Hopefully a good summary of my work. It was a pleasure to chat with everyone!
Conserving Mars Although @clarefletcher42 can't answer if there is life on Mars (yet), their research ensures we don't destroy Mars before we find out 🚀 Listen to @InnaOsmol and Liz's chat w/ Clare: https://t.co/IjSoTKmU1K

It was a privilege to be out there learning and teaching! I hope to be back soon!
Our scientists @clarefletcher42 @steller_luke and Martin Van Kranendonk had the opportunity to go to Meentheena with Nyamal knowledge holders, school kids, @NASA @ESA @AusSpaceAgency and @CSIRO! We work to inspire next gen & the community. We enjoyed our learning and teaching!
