Battlefield 2042 apparently had the most-watched game trailer on YouTube in 2021 with over 21 million views. It fell below 1,000 players on Steam yesterday.
Lessons should be learned.
For the record, I obviously don't have a problem with devs enjoying their holidays. They should, no exceptions. However, releasing Battlefield 2042 as it is, and then acting surprised and angry at fan reactions and requests shows huge contempt and disconnect to the fanbase.

If the last thing breaks the game for you, rethink your life priorities.
I think a core issue with Battlefield 2042 is its size. Maps lend themselves to snipers and vehicle gameplay. There are no options for players who enjoy infantry combat. Previous games had infantry-only maps, or limited vehicles.
Battlefield players forever endure problems. We happily do this because we love the game. When we can't do it anymore - it isn't because of Halo, bugs, or a new engine.
When you examine Battlefield 2042 from a gameplay perspective, the *only* thing that determines a friendly soldier from an enemy is the UI. Is this a team-based FPS or a UI-reading simulator?
I am enjoying Portal immensely, but Battlefield 2042 has some serious core issues and how DICE handles them will decide the future of the franchise.
This is not the tweet I wanted to send.
Hear me out - a Battlefield game with four classes, impressive destruction, and balanced infantry and vehicle combat. Oh and throw in a based campaign and robust expansions.
#Battlefield2042
has defeated me. It's time to branch out, try new things, fail at new things...but try and inject some life back into my channel. Battlefield will always have a place, but it needs to take the backseat for a bit.

One thing that continues to bother me about Battlefield 2042is how boring the match starts are. You spawn in and run 300m to an objective. Every. Single. Game.
Over 100,000 people have now signed the petition demanding refunds for Battlefield 2042. It remains to be seen if it will have any impact or result in legal action.

Do these people know almost every single gun in Star Wars is based on real life firearms with little modification? Han Solo's blaster is a Mauser C96. Stormtrooper blaster is a Sterling SMG. Death troopers DLT-19? MG-34. This fits the franchise history and aesthetic.
Leaked information reveals DICEs mystery Battlefield project is set during the 1920s, a smaller-scale experience, and spiritual successor to Battlefield Hardline.
The level of trolling by the Ukrainian people during the invasion will be the stuff of legend.
- "Russian warship, go fuck yourself."
- "Can I tow you back to Russia?"
- "Put these sunflower seeds in your pockets."
Incredible.
